¿Debe evaluarse sistemáticamente la disfunción eréctil en varones con síntomas del tracto urinario inferior? Evidencia del estudio MAYALUTS en el sureste de México

Introducción: la disfunción eréctil (DE) y los síntomas del tracto urinario inferior (LUTS) son patologías altamente prevalentes en varones de edad media y avanzada, con una frecuente coexistencia y un impacto significativo en la calidad de vida.
Objetivo: analizar la prevalencia de disfunción eréctil y su asociación con los síntomas del tracto urinario inferior en hombres del sureste mexicano.
Métodos: se realizó un estudio observacional en 316 varones mayores de 40 años incluidos durante una campaña comunitaria de salud. Se aplicaron los cuestionarios IPSS e IIEF-5. Se efectuó un análisis descriptivo, comparativo y un modelo de regresión logística multivariada para identificar factores asociados.
Resultados: la prevalencia de disfunción eréctil fue del 66,8 %, con una puntuación media en el IIEF-5 de 17,6 ± 5,7. El 46,2 % de los participantes presentó LUTS moderados o severos. La edad (OR: 1,03; IC95 %: 1,00–1,06; p = 0,027) y el tabaquismo (OR: 2,26; IC95 %: 1,21–4,22; p = 0,010) se identificaron como factores de riesgo independientes para disfunción eréctil. Asimismo, se observó una correlación positiva débil entre la severidad de los LUTS y la disfunción eréctil (ρ = 0,12; p = 0,047).
Conclusión: la elevada prevalencia de disfunción eréctil y su asociación con los síntomas urinarios respaldan la necesidad de una evaluación sistemática de la función sexual en varones con LUTS, especialmente en poblaciones con alto riesgo cardiovascular y acceso limitado a atención especializada.
